For the mediation project Dear Neighbour I sent a series of letters from my residency in France to Hordaland Kunstsenter’s neighbours: the residents of Nordnes. In this expanded post-card format, each text spilt into a short essay. Sending personal letters to complete strangers poses an awkward challenge. What does it mean to open up to someone you don’t know? ‘Spam’ (unwanted mail) usually tries to recruit you into a religious sect or scam money from you by way of terrible English grammar. My intentions however were less clear  – with topics that ranged from the art of saying goodbye, to the noble sport of pigeon racing. Central to my thinking were concerns around class and labour.
